Emerald Diamond International (EDI) was founded in 2006 by John Fitzgerald. Initially known as Emerald Diamond USA, our name is inspired by John’s documentary, The Emerald Diamond, which highlighted baseball’s unique presence in Ireland.
EDI’s mission began with a focus on supporting the development of amateur baseball in Ireland, primarily through donations of used equipment. Over the years, this mission has expanded to include financial and coaching support for youth baseball and rounders programs in Ireland and a school-based physical education program in Northern Ireland.
In 2019, EDI established the Irish American Baseball Society, a U.S.-based nonprofit subsidiary organization dedicated to researching, celebrating, and promoting awareness of the Irish influence on baseball from its origins to the present.
